OVERVIEW  

The workshop wishes to share the activities we developed for young children (5-6 years old). Using the Recent African origin hypothesis we will tackle the question of skin colours, migration and acculturation. We wish to go beyond colour-blind positions to appreciate the diversity and tacking differentiation related to skin colour.

OBJECTIVES

  • Exposing and discussing the arguments for tackling questions of skin color, migration with children
  • Sharing two activities that were developed and tested with children and parents
  • Discuss on the potential and the risks of the activities, sharing experiences with participants

PROGRAMM

  • Getting to know each other
  • Setting the theme: why tackling such themes with young children? A recall of critical incidents collected in pre-schools.
  • Immersion into the activities “colors” and “the journey” developed based on inspiration from the Recent African Origin hypothesis
  • Presenting the “BODI” toolkit
  • Discussion of results, applications, risks and resources.
