OVERVIEW

The workshop invites for tackling the theme of identity, without excessive culturalisation or essentialisation, but without denying its strengths and dynamics either.  We start by getting acquainted with the identity compass model based on identity principles, and we’ll explore how intercultural situations can trigger identity threats, as well as the strategies we have to respond to these threats and to negotiate.

We invite participants to try out two activities, one focusing on relational identities and the second one on acculturation.

OBJECTIVES

  • Introducing an approach to identity dynamics based on identity principles and threats
  • Sharing two activities that were developed for young people with multicultural references
  • Discuss on the potential and the risks of the activities, sharing experiences with participants

PROGRAMM

  • Getting to know each other
  • "Who am I” activity with a twist. Introducing the identity compass model
  • Activity to tackle relational identities
  • Activity to tackle acculturation
  • Sharing experiences, adaptations, potentials and risks.
